Udy - Summer Bassmix

Published by Udy on July 1, 2009

Summer is here, at least it is here in sunny Southsea! I’ve been holding back on this badboy as I wanted to do the mix when I was assured of sweltering sticky heat ;) A few of my own, one or two from friends and some silly bass tunes for your delectation. Enjoy.

New remixes from Udy

Published by Udy on June 30, 2009

First up is a remix for Techment overlord Vortechtral.  You may have caught him in his Vortech breaks guise at the last KMB but this track is a remix of his tribal dance floor techno original.  Vortechtral is a big name on the international techno scene with fans all over the world and indeed close to home with a glowing review from Mark EG.  This Udy remix attempts to take Vortechtral’s world and KMB’s world and mix it into a full on bassline tech fest.

Vortechtral - Ascension (Udy Remix)

The next track is a remix for Portsmouth legends Seatman Separator.  The original is from their Mercury Trax 3 EP which can be purchased here.  More of a re-version of a rock tinged atmospheric original, the idea was to create an electro version with enough groove to make a few bodies sway.

Seatman Separator - Blurt (Udy Splurt Revision)

Don’t forget you can also play, download and share these tracks from our Bln.kr Page. It’s an easy one stop shop for our tracks and how to share them.

High Drama AKA Ian Void is widely recognised for running the legendary Geushky club night and label and touring the world with his floor pounding techno. His latest guise is an outlet for him to lay down some house, fidget style. This is not a man that takes genre changes lightly so you can rest assured that Ian has brought his floor shaking techno history and quite simply bootied it up big style. His first production is just about to land, remixing the massive Feelin’ Electro by Rob Mooney for Punch Funk Recordings.

Working the set with High Drama we have beatbox/mc heavyweight, Mr Bevis, who’s myspaz blatently screams ‘mouth of the south and you knows it’… see for yourself at www.myspace.com/mrbevis.

Scott Poole is Philosipha, a well respected and loved DJ on the Portsmouth scene. The breadth of his love for music is echoed in his DJ sets and he has recently turned out an epic 5 hour set at iLLuMIDanCe. Having been brought up with music loving parents, Scott is also an avid sound engineer which helps him cut through the sea of tracks and find the ones that mean the most to him. Kiss My Bass is proud to have such an enthusiast in the booth and have commissioned Philosipha to bust out a set of electro tinged breaks, guaranteed to rock the dancefloor.

As well as our guests we, of course, have our quality residents keeping things moving from the very start, bringing you a mixture of breakbeat, fidget and bassline sounds, electro and techfunk. As with all our nights we will be bringing along a big soundsystem and professional lighting so now all we need is you up-for-it mob throwing some shapes and we got all the ingredients for another great party. Sounds of Sumo launches with Kry Wolf mixtape

Published by Udy on June 23, 2009

We have indeed mentioned Sumo here before but here comes the next step in their evolution. “Sounds of Sumo” is the label from these party masters and the first release planned is by huge scene upcomers Kry Wolf. Their debut Mucky is causing a little trouble on the dancefloor in its original and remixed form (more details to be announced).

For the time being satiate yourself with this top dollar mix, beautifully entitled “Hooooooowl at the Moon.” Bass heavy party blasts certainly not dissimilar to what you’ll find in our own residents sets and brilliantly representative of what Sumo is all about.

Udy feat. MC Whipcrack - Fat Loan OUT NOW on Nitrous Records

Published by Udy on June 21, 2009

Fat Loan

In these uncertain times it’s good to know that a small band of renegades are campaigning for the only thing that can pull us through: a Fat Loan of course! MC Whipcrack delivers a fine yarn about financial incapability and general negativity over 3 mixes from some truly exciting names rising in the breaks/electro/bassline scene.

Udy’s original mix is a slow building surging monster with a heavy influence of electro techno backing up the catchy vocals. By halfway in you’re stomping without even realising it and by the end you may finding yourself locked in the groove whilst still pulling that funny face that is appropriate for all big lead lines.

II Tone’s II Broke Remix takes the sound and makes it NOW with a crazy mash up of breaks and almost fidget style style house. The bassline that drops is just plain cheeky and has already seen dancefloors reverting to straight up groove mode. This boy is real upcoming talent with plenty of highly popular tracks under his belt so we’re stoked to have him stamp his signature all over Fat Loan.

Bujuben takes some straight up breakbeats and adds a dose of metal to the proceedings. Still focussing on the vocal hook but conjuring up a lead of his own it brings wailing siren like sounds and a certain epic edge to proceedings.

Those absolute heroes over at Palms Out Sounds have been very busy putting together an awesome package of mixes for the summer. I’ve been using this great bit kit of kit for the last couple of weeks to update not only the Kiss_My_Bass Twitter page but also my personal one (udya) and the comedy gold that it is ‘reillysmind’. It’s available for Windows Mobile and it’s called Twikini (don’t ask). If you’re enough of a geek to have multiple Twitter accounts (ahem) then you can log into and switch between all of them as well as reply, retweet, add pictures from your phone with Twitpic integration and use your GPS to publish your location. It’s pretty tasty and definitely worth checking out.

Out of the Void - South Coast Dance Music Scene

Published by Udy on June 16, 2009

Out of the Void started out as a place for party master Ollspin to group together events and fellow DJs/producers mainly in the Southampton area of England. Many years on the website has mutated into a beast and something of a labour of love for the man; spawning regular fundraisers for Oxfam in the Oxjam festival guise as well as parties with the infamous Brap.FM.

Void Gif

Having been an active member of the commmunity for a couple of years I now find myself in control of Void Radio (as the wonderfully title ‘Radio Monkey’, a regular Monday night slot (every week) from 8-10pm. Once a month this will of course contain our very own Kiss My Bass show and you’ll find a great talent there every week. Previous show producers have included Ben & Lex, Quexetal, KILLblinton, Ollspin and many more.

The website has forums, info on upcoming shows, events as well as features and reviews of past ones.
