Foamo

Its been a wild year for Kiss My Bass which in the short space of a year has grown from a small party to a monthly crowd-pulling night showcasing local breakbeat and electro djs and most recently has seen some class international djs taking to the stage, the latest being the legendary Meat Katie.

In this time KMB has been nominated as best local club night, thrown a wicked beach party and a sellout NYE allnighter and now the anniversary of our first party has come around which is why we made sure this one was something special! Kiss My Bass is bringing you the man of now in the world of bass-heavy house music, a newcomer taking the scene by storm – FOAMO.

Kye Gibbon aka Foamo is a fresh-faced 21 year old producer and DJ from High Wycombe. This lad has been banging out tasty wobbly basslines and fidgety beats all over the globe in the past year and has rightly received alot of attention from the likes of MSTRKRFT, DJ Zinc, Lee Mortimer, Armand Van Helden, Dave Spoon, DJ Craze, Drop The Lime, Crookers, Utah Saints, Bloody Beetroots, Kiss FM and the majority of Radio 1 presenters with sets already played on Kissy Sell Out’s and Rob Da Bank’s shows. With a bunch of remixes under his belt, collaborations with some of the biggest names in house music as well as residencies at London’s Chew The Fat and Space in Ibiza it’s clear to see that Foamo has been putting in the hours and it’s all paying off.

Foamo blasts out huge pulses of wonky, loud bass, making a noise not too dissimilar to the bass-heavy sound of Jack Beats, but with some added retro cool. His sound combines strange vocals and bouncing, squelching basslines for an animated and energetic amalgam of dancefloor fun. We kid you not! Not only is his production overshadowing the works of many who have been doing this for decades but his dj sets are getting top reviews left, right and centre and people are jumping on the chance to see what all the fuss is about and here is a chance of your very own.

DJ MAG — ‘nominated as best british breakthrough DJ 2008′
NME MAGAZINE & iDJ MAGAZINE— ‘one to watch 2009′

Joining Foamo will be VORTECH, an accomplished producer who has put out releases covering many genres over the past few years and will be digging deep into his record bag for a heavy selection of nuskool, tekky breaks and electro.

As per usual we will have our resident djs Vol.1, Fotza, Neil Doc and Udy giving the KMB crowd a chunky slice of whatever is making them nod their heads at the time from techfunk to breakbeat to techno to electronica. Just like the last party we will be bringing our own bass-heavy system and lighting rig to KMB’s new home, The Lounge, where we can be as loud as we like!

After an amazing 3/4 of a year partying at the Havana Bar, Kiss My Bass is moving on to bigger things with a new venue with a later licence, bigger production on all levels and bigger names, starting with one of the biggest around – MEAT KATIE.

Mark Pember aka Meat Katie has long been a fixture on the breakbeat scene as both a DJ and producer and in the last few years his unique brand of tech-funk that takes influence from tech and tribal house, techno and electro, but with his trademark breakbeat feel, has really kicked off, with both house and breaks DJs citing him as one of the most consistent players out there. His genre defying sound is also reflected in his DJ sets which have seen him support the likes of The Chemical Brothers, Asian Dub Foundations, Death In Vegas, Layo and Bushwaka and Basement Jaxx to name but a few. He has also toured Australia with Gatecrasher, the U.S. and Canada extensively and played to crowds in many of the worlds biggest cities.

On the recording front Mark has had releases on many a fine label including Kingsize Records, TCR, Bedrock, Lot49 and his own label Whole 9 Yards which boasts an impressive roster of talent such as Elite Force, Dylan Rhymes, Phil Kieran and Hyper. Mark’s long history in music includes time spent recording for Wall Of Sound and RS Records and during his time he has worked on remixes for artists including Arthur Baker, U.N.K.L.E, Boy George and Pepe Deluxe.

His previous album releases have seen him receive press features and interviews from just about every dance music magazine going and a few others to boot. His blurring of the lines between house music, breaks and techno has made him a pioneer both as a DJ and producer and gained him respect from a wide ranging music fanbase. Take all this in and it is simple to see why in 2006 he walked away with the ‘outstanding contribution to breakbeat’ gong at the Breakspoll Awards.

Our second guest for this party is Neil Doc, a man who does a lot behind the scenes to help make Kiss My Bass work and also happens to be a tip-top DJ. He is a fussy lad when it comes to choosing the right selection but as much as this stresses him out it works out pretty good for those on the dancefloor! As per usual we will also have the quality of the Kiss My Bass residents warming things up and getting the place buzzing. This is a big name in an intimate venue so make sure you grab a ticket while you got the chance!
